CPC meeting 7/30

All,
I apologize for the amount of time that this email has taken us to send. As most of you know by now the CPC approved the builders re-platting. The CPC met at 1:30 pm and the meeting lasted until approximately 4:30. Approximately 10-15 individuals showed up to protest. Mr. Dominguez, Mr. Spier and myself spoke in opposition to the re-platting. After that the developer and his representative spoke. While the commission ultimately voted to approve the proposal, it took three votes to do so and a little coaching by the builder to get the commission to approve the plan. One commissioner, Commission Updike initially proposed to have an environmental study included. This was requested by the Kern Association, Mission Hills Association and most of the individuals who were objecting. The environmental assesment was dropped on the final vote. Keep in mind that approving the proposal was an expected move even though the CPC was required to vote to approve the re-plat with a 75% vote. This was because of a petition that was circulated objecting to the proposed re-platting, that over 100 residents signed.

However the fight is not over. We will continue to look at options to keep Kern View Estates from being completed. Its our understanding that the next milestone that they must complete is a site plan that will go before the CPC and city council. This is in approximately 6 months. We will keep you informed as best we can. Please forward this email to anyone you know who may be interested. I have only 70+ individuals on the email list. If anyone else writes we can add them to the list.

Kfox and the El Paso Times have run several good stories about this issue. Below are some of the links.
